How To Make A Holiday Hot Cocoa Bomb

Hot cocoa bombs are popular every holiday season! While there are plenty of places selling them, you can also have fun by making a few at home! But if you don’t know what a hot cocoa bomb is, we’ll get you up to speed. They are a thin shell of chocolate that easily melts when dropped into a cup of hot milk. You can also pack the thin shell with marshmallows and candies. Below are simple instructions you can follow to make one on your own.

Grab your chocolate of choice (we recommend chocolate bark). Pop approximately 2 squares of chocolate bark into the microwave for about 1 minute. Then stir and return to microwave if needed.

Tip: Don’t step away for too long because the chocolate bark can burn very easily.

You can purchase a handy silicon round mold that forms large shells from stores like Walmart or Amazon. Pour about a tablespoon of melted chocolate into the molds. Use a spoon to spread the chocolate evenly in the mold. Once you’ve filled your molds, refrigerate for about 10 minutes until firm.

Once your molds are firm, pop the half balls out. Place a microwave safe plate inside the microwave to warm it up. Take one of the halves and rub the edge along the warm plate.

Once the edge is warm, fill the mold with 1 tablespoon of hot cocoa mix along with some of your favorite hot cocoa toppings including marshmallows, crushed peppermint, etc.

Now, take another half chocolate shell and rub the edge along the warm plate. Once the edge is warm, stick it on top of the other half filled with your goodies.

Feel free to jazz up your hot cocoa bombs up with sprinkles or chocolate on the outside.

Tip: Be careful not to drizzle too much hot melted chocolate on top, or it will melt your whole bomb.

Once the halves are joined, place the hot cocoa bombs inside your fridge to cool. We recommend storing them in the refrigerator. Then enjoy at your leisure!
