Digital Banking Safety 101

Updated: July 8, 2025

Digital Banking gives you the freedom to manage your money anytime, anywhere—no need to visit a branch or spend money on gas. With 24/7 access to your accounts, it’s easier than ever to stay on top of your finances. But just like any online service, it’s important to protect yourself from potential scams. The good news? A few simple precautions can go a long way. Our Digital Banking Safety Guide walks you through easy, effective steps to keep your financial information secure and give you peace of mind.

Check Your Accounts Often

One of the most effective ways to catch fraud early is to monitor your accounts regularly. Make it a daily habit to log in to Digital Banking and review your recent transactions. This simple step helps ensure every charge is accurate and authorized—especially if you shop online frequently. If you spot anything suspicious, report it to Launch CU right away. Staying proactive can help protect your finances and stop fraud in its tracks.

Create Difficult Passwords

Digital Banking safety starts with a strong password. Avoid using easily guessed information like your birthday, anniversary, pet’s name, or anything someone could find out about you. Instead, create a password that’s hard to crack—use a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (like !, @, $, or %). A complex, unique password is your first line of defense against fraud.

Change Your Passwords Frequently

Make sure to change your password at least once a month. This will help to eliminate the chance of someone gaining access to your account.

Use a Unique Password

Ideally, every online account  should have a different password. That way someone is not able to access all of your accounts should one of your passwords become compromised. Make sure you do not store your passwords somewhere they can be easily found such as your purse, wallet, etc. Make sure that you keep your passwords in a locked drawer or other place where the general public does not have access to.

Do Not Log In Using Public Wi-Fi

Always use a secure internet connection when accessing Digital Banking. Avoid logging in over public or unsecured Wi-Fi—like those found at airports, hotels, coffee shops, or malls. These networks can leave your personal and financial information vulnerable to hackers. To keep your accounts safe, only access Digital Banking when you’re connected to a trusted, secure network.

Check for the Lock

Always be sure you’re using Launch CU’s official Online Banking site. Look for “https://” at the beginning of the URL—the “s” stands for secure, meaning the site is encrypted to protect your information. You may also see a small padlock icon near the URL, another sign that the connection is secure. As a general rule, never enter personal information or make purchases on websites that don’t show these security indicators.

Protect Your Computer

Protect your devices by installing reputable anti-virus software and ensuring your firewall is enabled. These tools help block malicious downloads and reduce your risk of viruses or other cyber threats that could compromise your personal information.

Watch Out For Phishing Attacks

Launch CU will never ask you to provide your Digital Banking User ID or password via email. If you receive a message requesting this information—even if it looks official—do not click any links and do not respond. These are phishing attempts designed to steal your information. Instead, contact us immediately to report the suspicious email.
